New SHPO!
We are pleased to announce that Michelle Ensey has been appointed by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham as the State Historic Preservation Officer / Director of the Historic Preservation Division.
Michelle has been with HPD for 24 years and served as Deputy SHPO and State Archaeologist for the past seven years.
As SHPO, Ensey oversees activities like:
- - Consulting with federal agencies on compliance efforts under federal historic preservation laws.
- - Advising state, federal and local governments on historic preservation matters.
- - Identifying and nominating properties to the State Register of Cultural Properties / National Register of Historic Places.
- - Overseeing state and federal income tax credit programs for the rehabilitation of historic properties.
- - Providing education and training, like the upcoming Archaeology Fair (October 19, from 10-4 at the Center for New Mexico Archaeology, 7 Old Cochiti Road, Santa Fe – see https://bit.ly/47OT1kS ).).
- - Working with local governments to develop preservation programs.
- - Maintaining grant programs.
