Archaeological Records Management Section inventories all archaeological sites and projects in New Mexico and maintains the largest automated archaeological record database in the United States. ARMS currently has more than 86,000 registered archaeological projects and more than 140,000 sites in the New Mexico Cultural Resources Information System.

ARMS is supported by federal and state agencies, archaeological contractors and private industry. It has Data Sharing Agreements with more than 20 federal partners and several state partners, and has accounts with 90 universities nationwide that offer free access to data for research purposes. Developers pay a user fee for access to ARMS maps and database. ARMS data also is available to subscribers for municipal planning, land management and archaeological research.

In the process of building roads, installing pipelines and electrical lines, or building a home or business developers and their consultants frequently consult ARMS as part of the Section 106 process. ARMS's Internet Map Server provides users cultural data right at their fingertips, 24/7.
